Maintenance

Keeping your teeth and oral cavity clean is very important to maintaining your oral health at a high and acceptable level. It takes twenty-four hours for plaque to turn into calculus, and your teeth and mouth are then very vulnerable to many bacterial infections and diseases.

There are many things you can do at home to keep up on oral cleaning, including brushing, flossing, and fluoride treatments, but there are places in your mouth that are hard to reach and need special attention. That is why Dr. Andrew C. Dreyer suggests that you come in for your regular six-month checkup to take care of those hard-to-reach places. Your periodontist will also check the depths of your pockets, remove plaque and calculus, take X-rays, examine existing restorations, check for tooth decay, screen for oral cancer, polish your teeth, and make any recommendations to help with oral hygiene. Based on the finding of the exam, we may recommend further treatment to improve your oral health.
